Runcorn Cricket Club are seeking a Groundsman for the 2018 season.

Following the club’s promotion to the Cheshire County League, Runcorn CC wishes to recruit a Groundsman from March to October 2018 to work on the square at the club’s Moughland Lane ground.

Our ground has in recent years, repeatedly scored some of the highest rankings in the Cheshire Cricket League pitch and outfield marking classifications.

The square has 9 senior pitches, three junior tracks and a practice pitch and is ongar-loam in structure. Practice is largely undertaken in the club’s excellent three-lane artificial nets.

The club requires the Groundsman to work specifically on the square only as it already has personnel who maintain both the outfield and the grounds of the facility. Runcorn CC also has a Grounds Chairman and Ground Advisor who are responsible for the general operations of the facility, maintenance of equipment, ordering of all materials and carrying out end of season renovations.

This role would suit either a Groundsman currently at a club who is looking for some extra money or a company who would be able to fulfil the role on a contractual basis, operating on a schedule to fit in with their other commitments. We do not expect the person or business taking this contract to be on duty during matchdays.

Main responsibilities are:

Select pitches for play throughout the season;
Prepare and repair all senior pitches for 1st, 2nd and 3rd XI games;
Prepare and repair pitches required for junior games at U9/11/13/15/18s.

We are looking for a person/business who:
• has experience of the maintenance of cricket grounds
• has the ability to prioritise their workload and work in an organised manner without close supervision
• has a flexible approach to the tasks within their role
It is desirable, though not essential, that the person/contractor who takes on the post, has certificates in First Aid at Work and Pesticide Spraying and has further qualifications (IOG) relating to grounds work.

Runcorn CC has an extensive stock of machinery available, including:
Ransome Certes, Toro Greensmaster, Dennis FT (with cutting and verticutting cassettes) mowers.
Pitch roller (Swillington flat bed with variable weight options).
SISIS Auto Rotorake Mk5 (with scarifier and brush attachments).
6 spray head, 50 litre tank pro sprayer.

The club is prepared to offer very competitive rates of pay for the role and flexible arrangements regarding performing it.

Paul Tyrrell
Ground Chairman – Runcorn CC.
